JOB SEARCH
Apply for jobs in your city!
Look at local job listings or browse websites like Indeed. Consider working at an in-home daycare or childcare center.
The South Dakota Department of Labor's website is one way to find and post jobs. It's also a resource for finding information on workforce training, licensing, employment laws and more.
START AN IN-HOME DAYCARE
Be your own boss. An in-home daycare business allows you to stay home with your own kids while caring for others in the convenience of your own home.
Considerations:
There are two types of regulated (registered and licensed) programs:
- Informal or in-home providers are exempt from being registered or licensed, but they can receive childcare assistance payments for the one family in care, if they meet the minimum standards set by the state and federal government
- Unregulated Family Day Care providers have the option of being registered with the department, but are not able to receive childcare assistance payments or other federal funds unless they register.
Requirements:
- Licensing - including a background check and education
- Training - First aid and CPR, nutrition, reporting and recognizing child abuse and neglect
- Ratio requirements - vary among age levels and size
- Environmental standards - is the facility or home suitable and safe
- Business plan - cost overview, funding, grant acquisition and applications, hiring and training staff
- Ongoing education
